For those of you who don’t already know, this week, February
24-March 2, 2013 is National Eating Disorder Awareness Week. The theme this
year is “Everybody Knows Somebody”, and with the millions of females and males
who suffer from an eating disorder at some point in their life, especially
adolescents and college aged individuals, this statement almost always holds
true. Every type of Eating Disorder: Anorexia
Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder and Eating Disorders Not
Otherwise Specified (ED-NOS), can be life threatening and affect both a person’s
physical and mental well-being. NEDAwareness Week “strives to increase outreach
and awareness of eating disorders and body image issues, while reducing the stigma
surrounding eating disorders and improving access to treatment resources”
(nedawarness.org).
